As many as 115 million children of primary school age around the world will watch their friends heading off to school, but will never experience that joy for themselves. Two-thirds of these children are girls.

My mother died and my father forbade me attending school. I had to cook and take care of my siblings. I would keep any money I got, saving it for school, and eventually paid for my books and uniforms and snuck out. When my dad learned of this, he gave me more chores. I got up at 4 am, did the chores, and still went to school until grade 7. Then my dad remarried, my stepmother did not like me. She said she would not feed me if I went to school and she burned my school notes.

ARAB WORLD

We partner with AWEMA to provide two unique education programs. The first provides educational, social, and psychological development  for under-privileged children ages 6 to 10, including financial assistance for school fees, school supplies, clothing and medical care.

The second is a literacy program aimed at improving the education and skills of young women and women from poor and refugee families.
