Ella never got the chance to go to school. At 43, she has lived in Addis Ababa her whole life. She has a 20-year-old son and an 18-year-old daughter, both of whom are struggling in school. This generational education gap is an uphill battle! Still, Ella is determined to improve her family’s situation.
Ella said even when she was at her lowest and not generating income, BEZA (Tirzah’s Ethiopia partner) addressed her “as one of its beneficiaries.” She received seed money from us and started an open market stall where she sells home products that are in high demand in the local markets.
Ella recently told the livelihood social worker that since becoming a part of the Women’s Empowerment Program, she has experienced a dramatic economic transformation!
Before, her monthly income was around 500 Birr (~17 USD). Today, her accounts are growing faster and faster - something Ella never expected. She now earns around 1200 Birr per month (~41 USD). She is able to prepare healthy meals for herself and her family and provide for them.
Her progress is so evident that everyone around her sees her thriving and remarks! She thanks God daily and prays that her work would be blessed.
